The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti was designed to replace the smaller 456, in the traditional 4-seater V12 GT line of Ferrari models. The 612 is Ferrari’s second all-aluminium vehicle, the first being the 360 Modena. It was offered with automatic 6-speed transmission, although 199 specimens were given 6-speed manual gearboxes. The body of the 612 was produced at Ferrari’s Carrozzeria Scaglietti plant from 2004 to 2010. The 5.7 litre V12 has a compression ratio of 11:1 and enables the car to attain a top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph) and allows it to accelerate from 0–100 km/h (62 mph) in 4 seconds.
The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti has an opinion-splitting exterior design that has been a subject of controversy. The design, especially the large side scallops and the headlights, pays homage to the coach built 1954 375 MM that director Roberto Rossellini had commissioned for his wife, Ingrid Bergman. It was the first model available to order via Ferrari’s One-To-One customisation program, and featured a number of unique features for a racing brand, namely extra passenger comfort (rear seat air-con vent, ashtray, latches for child seat), increased boot space, etc.
