The Ferrari Portofino was unveiled in 2017 and began its production in February 2018. The Portofino is powered by a front mounted turbocharged V8, like its predecessor the California T, delivering 0–100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 320 km/h. One major improvement is the very high increase of chassis rigidity, thanks to the integration of many components into single-casting pieces. The aerodynamic coefficient has decreased even more to an impressive 0.31. The Portofino has won awards for its design and styling, and features many in-car entertainment comforts, for example Apple CarPlay functionality in its dashboard.
The Ferrari Portofino was designed as a two-door 2+2 hard top convertible in Centro Stile Ferrari, the in-house Ferrari department, and is intended to be an entry-level Ferrari with grand touring style. It keeps a number of concepts from the Ferrari California, namely, the front-mounted V8 engine, 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, stop/start technology. The exhaust system has been tweaked to give the car a proper sound-note while maintaining its grand touring nature, utilising an adjustable electric bypass valve. The rear seats have increased legroom (by 5 centimetres) and the air conditioning system has been refined to being 25% faster and 50% quieter than the California’s. The aerodynamics are improved even more to a very low aerodynamic coefficient of 0.312. Portofino is named after the south-Italian village of the same name.
Chassis
Many chassis’ components were redesigned and integrated to an even greater extent. The A-pillar, for example, now consists of just 2 pieces compared to 21 different components in previous models.
